The Greene County cross country teams ran their first meet of the season, traveling to West Central Valley in Stuart for the Wildcat Classic.
Both the girls and the boys teams placed fifth. “It was nice to have a full girls team to score as a team,” coach Jeff Lamoureux said. A minimum of five runners are needed for a team score, a mark the girls didn’t reach last year.
“I’m very pleased with their results and happy for Olivia Shannon, who finished eighth overall,” he continued. Shannon, a senior, ran the course in 24:07.02.
Other times and finishes in the girls race were freshman Ava Minnehan, 26:49.62, 19th; senior Autumn Stevens, 28:12.74, 27th; sophomore Ava Jablonski, 29:18.09, 36th; and freshman Leah McCormick, 35:17.73, 51st. There were 58 runners in the girls race.
The winning time was Keumper’s Marie Dea’s time of 21:32.13.
Teams scores in the girls race were Kuemper Catholic 55; Interstate 35, 76; West Central Valley 80; Saydel 101; Greene County 109; Ankeny Christian Academy 110; and CAM 128.
In the boys race, sophomore Noah Hinote was the first Ram across the finish line. His 19:55.15 time was good for 12th place. Other Ram times and finishes were sophomore Gavyn Winters, 19:55.15, 15th; senior Ethan Frederick, 20:46.62, 23rd; junior Kolby Angell, 20:46.44, 24th; freshman Carter Hinote, 22:39.81, 39th; and senior Mylo Taute, 23:52.57, 54th. A total of 80 runners competed.
The winning time was 17:39.71 posted by Doug Berg of Nodaway Valley.
The boys were just one point behind the third place team. Team scores were Kuemper Catholic 39, Interstate 35 49, Nodaway Valley 98, Ankeny Christian Academy 99, Greene County 99, Saydel 139 and Southwest Valley 192.
